Quantum of the Seas Pre-Launch Inspection
The executives at Royal Caribbean International suggested the evening prior to our tour of the nearly completed Quantum of the Seas that we would likely have two impressions. The first impression would be that we would be wowed with the awesomeness of this new ship. The second impression would be that we would wonder if it would be completed by delivery just two months away. And I must say that they were completely correct!
The Quantum of the Seas is a completely different ship with game changing technology and very elegant style. It's public areas are very spacious and extremely well designed. The stateroom accommodations are equally as impressive. No longer can you book an inside cabin! All inside cabins will have 100 inch, high definition LCD screens that will display live video from the outside. It sounds like a silly concept but when I saw it live I was blown away by how realistic it felt.
The big game-changer was the announcement of "O3B" satellite internet technology. O3B is a series of dedicated satellites that will beam high speed internet with a direct, faster-than-broadband connection to the ship. Royal Caribbean has promised that this technology will not only be many times faster than the current internet speeds (something all of us have been complaining about for years!) but that it will be offered at a lower cost than it is currently sold for across their fleet. To give you an idea of how fast the internet speed is the VP of Information Technology at RCCL stated that if every cabin was to stream Netflix at the same time the system wouldn't experience any delays. CRAZY! We can only hope that this is true.
I am grateful for the invitation to preview Royal Caribbean's ships in their construction phase. It was amazing to behold! Another check on my bucket list!
